In today’s world there is so much happening and we are rushing thru life at record speed. We want to ensure we build a portfolio for our retirement and to leave a legacy behind, when the time comes. I felt a need to create this for myself and soon realized, I’m not alone and there is a general need for a registry like this. It all started with my dad going to the hospital and having to drop everything to take care of my aging sick mother.
Energy
The Ontario Energy Board’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) provides low-income customers up to $500 in emergency financial assistance to pay their gas or electricity bills ($600 if their home is heated electrically). Low-income Enbridge customers can apply for the Home Winterproofing Program. Enbridge also offers the Community Energy Conservation Program in some parts of Ontario, which brings with it incentives of up to $2,000 to qualified homeowners.
Food
Call 2-1-1 to find agencies which provide grocery shopping rides, to find Meals on Wheels or food banks if you or your loved one are mobile. Some municipalities, such as Toronto, operate Good Food Box programs, which deliver boxes of affordable, fresh produce to pick up locations on a regular basis. Call 2-1-1 to find out what food or meal programs are available near you. Help With Pet Costs
Dogs or cats are essential to the wellbeing of many seniors, but paying for their expenses can be worrisome if money is tight, especially if they fall ill. If you don’t have enough money to pay vet bills, you might be eligible for help from the Farley Foundation.

CCAC staff will coordinate in-home services such as nursing, personal support, physiotherapy, or medical supplies and equipment. Chances are we have all heard that cell phones are potentially hazardous. Here you have it. Most of us see our children and/or grandchildren on their phone 7/24. Heck we do it too. We should limit the use of these devices, taking action before it is too late. Not when receiving horrifying news from our doctors, that our cell phones may have contributed to our ailments or health altering illness. Take care of your self and loved ones, by limiting the use of cell phones being pushed up against our heads or just resting in our pockets or bra straps while carrying them. This is a must see!
It makes you wonder.
I was walking my dog this morning on this bright morning. While walking I was looking at the beautiful changing leaves on these old tall trees, thinking to myself what a story could they tell of their lives. Generations of people passing by, sitting under them, shading themselves from the hot summer days or rain. Possibly overhanging their striking leaves protecting a young amorous couple having a picnic. With the years and seasons passing, I wonder if they could talk to us, what stories would be told?
I remembered 35 years ago when I had this same feelings and thoughts and decided to write a poem. I want to share it with you this beautiful fall day.

A tree is beauty and tree gives shade
A tree gives comfort to all this day
A glamour to see with all its leaves
Flourish in elegance, mobility at ease.
Man kills the trees as ancient they may be
For man has eyes, though he cannot see
With all its beauty it brings when old
A tree won’t harm and is quite bold.
What beauty a tree!
We are not replanting and how wonderful. Just like these aging trees, we too are aging and want to leave our legacy behind to the next generation.
